- Text or HTML
- Quotes
- Links
- Chat dialogues
- Photos
- Videos
Changes from previous version

- Post to any of your tumblelogs, public or private.
- New software update checking.
- Automatically checks for newer versions of the widget upon starting up or viewing the back side.
- Preference to turn off this feature.
- Miscellaneous error codes.
- If an error occurs that does not have a pre-described message associated with it, a message will be displayed, showing the HTTP Status Code for what happened.
- Increased password security.
- Password is now retrieved and saved directly through the password field and is no longer stored in variables during these processes.
Instructions
- Double-click the widget file “Tumblenote.wdgt” to open it in the Mac OS X Dashboard.
- Click the small “i” button in the bottom-right corner of the widget to flip to the back.
- Enter your tumblr.com email address and password to login.
- If you want to post to the default tumblelog that came with your account, leave the Tumblelog field blank. If you want to post to any tumblelog other than the default one, enter its URL (web address). If your tumblelog is private, enter its Group ID Number in the Tumblelog field (this is the number found in your web browser’s Address Bar when, from your tumblr.com Dashboard, you click the title name of a private tumblelog).
- If you would like to be notified of future updates to Tumblenote, ensure “Check for updates” is checked.
- Click the “Done” button to flip back to the front side of the widget.
- Using the drop-down menu in the bottom-left corner of the widget, select which style of post you would like to make.
- Enter your post into the provided text-entry fields. These fields change purpose, depending on what type of post you are making:
- Text posts use a title box and a message body box.
- Quote posts use a source box and a quote body box. The source is generally where you got the quote from, such as the person who said it.
- Link posts use a name box and a URL (web address) box.
- Chat posts use a title box and a dialogue body box. Format the body text as usual. For instance:
- Person 1: Hello!
- Person 2: Hi, how are you today?
- Person 1: I’m doing great now that I’m using Tumblenote!
- etc.
- Video posts use a caption box and a Vimeo / YouTube URL (web address) or HTML code box. If your video is on a video site like Vimeo or Youtube, simply insert the URL of the video’s web-page. If you are using HTML to include any other video content, you will likely need to use an <embed> HTML tag.
- Photo posts use a caption box and a photo or image URL (web address) box.
- In all cases, the smaller text box is optional, but the larger text box cannot be left blank.
- Once you are finished typing, click the “Post” button in the bottom-right corner of the widget to post it to your tumblelog. The status area to the right of the Tumblr logo should display the message “Posted,” confirming that your post was received by Tumblr.
- Optionally, you may click the Tumblr logo in the upper-left corner of the widget to go to http://www.tumblr.com/dashboard. If you have not done so already, you may need to log in to the Tumblr website.
Status messages
Status or error messages will be displayed in the status area to the right of the Tumblr logo on the front of the widget. These are all the possible messages you might encounter:
- “Posted”
- Until you see this message, you can be sure your post has not been posted to Tumblr.
- “Update available!”
- An update to Tumblenote is available. Click the Visit Website link on the back of the widget or go to http://tumblenote.tumblr.com/ to download the latest version.
- “Incorrect login info”
- Your email address, password, or both were incorrect. Check that you have properly entered this data into the appropriate field on the back of the widget. If the problem persists, check that you can fully log in on http://www.tumblr.com/ - if not, there may be a problem with your Tumblr account and you should contact Tumblr support staff.
- “Error sending post”
- There was at least one error while sending your post to tumblr or saving it in your tumblelog. You may not have filled in a text field required for making a post. For any type of post, the smaller text box is optional, but the larger one cannot be left blank. Ensure you have filled in the larger text box and try posting again. If that fails, the data you have entered into one of the text boxes may not be allowed, such as HTML in the URL field of a Photo post. Ensure you are writing using allowable formatting and try posting again.
- “Tumblelog not found”
- The tumblelog address or Group ID Number you entered on the back of the widget is not valid. Check that you have entered it correctly and try again. If you are trying to post to the default tumblelog that came with your tumblr.com account, ensure that the tumblelog URL field on the back of the widget is blank. Only fill it in if you are posting to a tumblelog other than the default one.
- “Connection error”
- The widget could not establish a proper Internet connection. Check your Internet connection and its settings and try again. If your connection does appear to work, check that you can access http://www.tumblr.com/, to ensure that the Tumblr website is accessible and running properly.
- “Error ###”
- If the error that occurred doesn’t fit into any of the above categories, this error will be seen with any number of three-digit error codes. The code number is a standard HTTP Status Code, for which you can easily look up information (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTTP_status_codes). Sometimes, restarting your computer will resolve any errors you may have been getting.
System Requirements
Tumblenote requires Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger or later.
